RAJO! x PARISIAN + MILANOS! The Campaign!

September 26th, 2012

I am very proud to present the final campaign image for my newest collaboration for the SM group!  It is so gratifying to be able to see what was just originally lived only in my head.  It is moments like this when I know that I indeed very blessed because I am able to do what I really love.

.

.

We were able to create two distinct campaigns  working on the duality of black and white.  Both of which are extremely strong so It was really so hard to decide on what to chose as the main image. These images I hear will be posted all over the metropolis as huge bill boards!  I am so excited for this.  These images will also be in magazines, newspapers and in the SM stores as well.  I would like to thank everyone involved in the making this all happen!  I am deeply grateful and thankful to everyone in the SM team headed by Eugene Saw!  Thank you also to my creative team who has always never failed to amaze me!  Please enjoy the images as these are all brought to you truly via a labor of LOVE!

.

Enjoy these images!

RAJO! FOR PARISIAN AND MILANOS

image

The highly anticipated comeback brings Japan to Manila.

By Nikki Santiago Sep 26, 2012

Esteemed designer Rajo Laurel once again partners with SM to launch two exclusive collections of meticulously-designed footwear, following a successful turnout last year. This year, the collaboration takes the brand’s scale to new heights by launching a premier collection for Milanos (shoes for men) and a second one for Parisian—aptly dubbed Rajo! for Parisian and Rajo! for Milanos.

On its second run, Rajo draws inspiration from Japanese culture, throwing in bold colors, striking patterns, and sleek lines and curves to the design process.

“As a designer, Japanese culture has always been a point of reference for me. I am in love with the graphic qualities of their traditional garb, the intricate art of the obi, the deep romanticism associated with the kimono, and of course the Zen balance of the modern Japanese aesthetic,” Rajo explains.

The line includes sandals, wedges, and heels for women, and casual and dress shoes made of leather and suede for men. Rajo incorporated just the right bit of edge by mixing in some structural silhouettes, bows, tassels, and floral prints to the Parisian line. Rajo! for Milanos pieces, on the other hand, are subtly played up with metallic accents and embroidery.

At last night’s launch, the guests were afforded a visual feast via a fashion show that featured models dressed as modern geishas and neo-samurais. After the show, they were lead to view the shoes on display against a backdrop reminiscent of Tokyo’s Harajuku district.

As a treat, SM has made the collections available in 20 stores to be able to reach more customers. Head on over to the following branches to get your own pair: SM Mall of Asia, SM North EDSA, SM Makati, SM Megamall, SM Cubao, Sm San Lazaro, SM Manila, SM Fairview, SM Las Piñas, SM Bacoor, SM Dasmariñas, SM Lucena, SM Lipa, SM Baguio, SM Pampanga, SM Clark, SM Marilao, SM Cebu, SM Lanang, and SM Mandurriao.

The Star Magic Ball 2012 Experience!

September 3rd, 2012

The Star Magic Ball is always an exciting event.  I always feel like the fairy god mother in events like these as I am able to experiment and play with what ideas I have in my head. The ball is pretty much a showbiz insiders event however the magnitude is amplified by the mega wattage of stars that attend the ball.

.

Bea Alonso only fitted her gown 2 days before the event. She was in the midst of finishing her new film and her schedule was booked rock solid!

.

I was fortunate enough to dress up 7 celebrities for the event.  I wish I could have cloned myself and got to visit all of them but I did end up visiting 4 out of the 7 so that was pretty  much a good batting average.  Because celebrities have the most difficult work schedules it was really quite challenging to pin them down for a fitting.  Fitting these dresses are extremely vital because everyone is going to be looking at the stars and what they will be wearing.  The pressure for us designers in really strong.  So fittings are really important.

Because everyone looks up to these celebrities as templates of style and fashion.  It is the designers responsibility to  push the envelope and develop directional ideas on how one should be dressing up for big events like this.  I for one was in a very dark dramatic mood.  I wanted to create gowns that had these romantic goth to the spirit.  I also wanted to experiment with new materials.  Starting out with my fascination with feathers.  Then it became leather and silk thread that would look like hair.  I also wanted to use metals and and lucite.  My goal was to create evening dresses that would move away from the standard crystals and that preverbal bling.  In other words something new!

.

Good thing we found time. This was around 830am and she had zero sleep. She still managed to look extremely beautiful and so flawless.

I wanted to experiment with the idea of a modern flapper for Ms. Kaye Abad.

Detail! It was like creating a weave! LOL!

This was the leather and tulle starting point for Ms. Nikki Valdes. I had to guess her measurements as it was not given to me.

Nikki and I decided to tweak the neckline a bit and made it dangerous! LOL!

I thought it really worked!

My girls worked non stop to get my Black swan gown to the ball in time.

Love the iridescent quality of these feathers.

Kaye Abad’s back detail.

The finished product! I really loved the result.

This new flapper dress is going to be quite the winner.

Back drama!

Bea’s black swan bodice.

Detail!

Nikki’s leather neckline.

Detail!

I went to Bea’s room to help her change. I loved the fresh floral arrangements.

I was happy the I had Ms. Liz Uy beside me the whole time while preparing for the ball. I love working with her!

The Genius that is Juan Sarte III did Bea’s luminous make up!

Behind the scenes!

Bea Alonso as my BLACK SWAN!

Liz does her thing!

Back details.

Happy to see Be a really happy with her gown!

I love the excitement of dressing up for the big parties! It’s almost as fun as coming to the ball.

Bea is is so FIERCE!

Getting ready for the ball.

Shaina is a really gorgeous Amir Sali gown.

Were all set!

WOW! Look at how many likes Bea got!

Loving Guji’s Leather Tux! Kaye is so sexy!

.

So as promised I am providing all of you a photo essay on my own personal Star Magic ball experience.  Thank you for the opportunity and it was really such an honour and a pleasure!

My sketches for the STAR MAGIC BALL 2012!

September 1st, 2012

It’s the STAR MAGIC BALL tonight!  I have been quite busy preparing for this event for several weeks I am dressing up a few of their Stars and I wanted to share a few of the sketches to all of you.  The theme of the Ball has always been black and white but I wanted to “play” with this concept and decided to tweak what this means to me.  I also wanted to play on new textures and fabrics for this ball so I used unconventional materials like leather, silk thread, feathers.  Because I wanted to use “experimental” materials I opted to keep the silhouette’s pretty classic.  Focusing primarily on the waist and creating deep necklines that will make anyone instantly taller and thinner.

.

.

I will do another post on the fittings and the process and show you all the finished products!  I do hope I get the chance to instagram all the clothes!  LOL!  Have a great weekend!

Tyra Banks in HOUSE OF LAUREL Spock & Savile 2012!

I LOVE Ms. TYRA BANKS!  She recently wore my Phaet dress from my current collection from House of Laurel!  I am so flattered that she even did a shout out on her twitter and instagram!  I only found out when I woke up and found my phone going ballistic!  LOL!

.

Tyra Banks at Late Night with Jimmy Fallon!

.

I feel so grateful to Tyra’s style team who has kept in touch with me ever since I was given the chance to dress her up on America’s next top model.  Even if me and my company are thousand of miles away from the epicentre of the world of hollywood and fashion our little voice can be heard.  It makes me all warm and fuzzy inside that people like Tyra and her amazing team gives a chance for designers like myself an opportunity to be showcased to the world.  I am deeply grateful to Tina Phan who one day I will get to meet and give her a huge warm hug and of course to Ms. Tyra Banks!  Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

I sent Ms. Tyra several dresses from my current collection and hopefully we will all get to see her in them in the days to come.
