After having his winning T-shirt at Bloomingdale’s in New York, Filipino designer Robin Tomas is now making an impact on young Filipinos by designing clothes for a local brand.

The New York-based Pinoy designer was tapped by local clothing brand Penshoppe to create T-shirts for its primary market, the trendy Pinoy youth.

His creations were featured at the Penshoppe fashion show called “Impact” during the Philippine Fashion Week held last weekend.

“The biggest focal point of the collection is the winning T-shirt that was featured in Bloomingdale, New York, which is the layered T-shirt,” said Robin about his designs in a short chat with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and other media before the show last Saturday, May 26, at SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia complex, Pasay City.

Robin, who is the son of actress Tessie Tomas, joined and won the Best Reinvention of the Men’s T-shirt at the Supima Design Competition early last year. His winning piece, a V-neck layered tonal tee cotton knit, was then launched at Bloomingdale’s flagship department store in New York.

Like this piece, Robin said his designs for the local brand would have the similar idea that’s perfect for Pinoys.

“I wanna bring a part of New York here in the Philippines,” he said.

“It’s a fun collection, it’s sophisticated, easy to wear especially for the Philippine weather, and still give that statement.

“You know, I have a lot of graphic T-shirt as well, mostly like New York graphic T-shirt.”

Robin, who is a graduate of Parsons School of Design in New York, thought about “sophistication” while working on the featured shirts.

“I like to design for confident men and women.

“With the Penshoppe collection, I wanted to imbibe that. At the same time, speak to the right market.

“I was able to instill my design aesthetic and, at the same time, know who I’m selling the product to.

“I’m aware who the Penshoppe girl and boy is, they’re always on the go, they’re young, and they’re always on trend. So, I kinda melted that with this collection.”

Robin’s designs, according to Penshoppe’s brand manager Alex Mendoza, were so in demand that they already ran out of stock before these were formally introduced to the public.

QUEEN B TAKES OVER MANILA

Leighton Meester flies in Manila for Penshoppe.

By Jacque De Borja

It’s a star-studded week for Penshoppe as they bring in two Hollywood celebrities for their newest campaign. After Mr. Smolderhalder, Vampire Diaries‘ Ian SomerhalderLeighton Meester, also known as Blair Waldorf in the hit TV Series, Gossip Girl, walks the runway for Penshoppe at Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2012.

The Impact fashion show of Penshoppe was very well attended, in anticipation of Leighton Meester and of course, for the brand’s new array of clothing for the season. Let us assure you that they covered every trend from brights, denim, pastel to even the classic black in a wide variety of treatment and silhouettes.

As the fashion show ended, Alex Mendoza, brand manager of Penshoppe, talks about how big this year was for Penshoppe from their evolving fashion to their numerous Hollywood endorsers and ends with saying, “We have a big surprise for you!”

Leighton, whom we lovingly call Queen B, walks out the runway (clad in an outfit designed by Robin Tomas for Penshoppe) with no other than Thai-cutie and fellow Penshoppe All-Stars member, Mario Maurer, and the crowd went nuts, to say the least! She thanks everyone with a sweet smile while Mario also welcomes her to the Penshoppe family. It was surreal!

Our TwitPics got numerous retweets all throughout the night and one of those people who retweeted was no other than Mario. How sweet!

Mario even retweeted one from my personal account, I was beyond kilig!

Like what we said before, exciting things are up ahead and we can’t wait for what Penshoppe will come up with next!

ANTM ALL STARS IN TOWN FOR BENCH

Allison and Dominique let us in on the reasons why they couldn’t pass up coming to Manila.

By

Truth: Philippine Fashion Week is getting more star-studded by the season.

Following in the footsteps of fellow America’s Next Top Model alum, Claire UnabiaAllison Harvard and Dominique Reighard arrived on our shores to walk for one of the hottest tickets in Philippine Fashion Week Holiday 2012Michael Cinco for Bench

Of her trip to our tropical country, Dominique told us, “It’s more fun in the Philippines! Everyone is so warm and inviting, as soon as I stepped off the plane, you could feel the love and the energy. I’m very excited to be here.”

Both standing tall at 5’9 (take note, without heels), the two models met with the press a day after arriving already decked out in the latest from Bench apparel. Dominique wore a black jersey jumpsuit from the Randy Ortiz X Bench collection while Allison stayed true to her quirky style in a patchwork denim button down and jeans. On the garments, Dominique commented, “I love their clothes, theyre super comfortable and you can still be fierce in an effortless way! And as you can see, between my personality and [Allison’s] personality, you can find literally something for everyone at that store.”

Gaining their first impression of Bench and Michael while filming an episode in Greece, Allison shared what led her to agreeing to come to Manila to not only walk in the show, but to become the face of the designer’s newest fragrance, Impalpable. “Everyone that worked on that particular episode was really, really sweet and while it was a strange introduction to [Bench] sitting in a salad bowl, the lingerie itself was really adorable and really sweet and I definitely jumped at the opportunity to work with Michael Cinco again. That was really exciting.”

Another large part of their trip to Manila was to finally meet and greet the fans that have sent them support throughout their initial seasons and the All Star cycle.

“I just want to reiterate how thankful I am to the fans and the people. Absolutely without a doubt, the number one place I get mail from anywhere I get in the world is the Philippines. So it was really special to come here for that reason alone. I’m really really grateful for that,” Allison told us. Dominique likewise felt the love from the local fans. “It’s great to work with both Michael Cinco and Bench. I had  a ball in Top Model and I got so much love from all the fans here in the Philippines and I couldn’t wait to come, and to come with Bench is a once in a lifetime opportunity.“
